The Chari-Tee

150 VIP guests including design duo Harry Watt and George Gross proved that Variety really is the spice of life as they celebrated the national launch of the inaugural Variety Chari-Tee collection at the exquisite new Skyline Penthouse on Wednesday night. The 12 models wore the latest denim jeans donated by JAG with the brilliant Chari-tees - so modern - everyone agreed it was a clever and exciting combination of what looks good and why women will want to support this new project for Variety.

Australia’s fashion royalty team with children’s charity Variety to create the ultimate Chari-Tee.

Forget Manolo Blahnik shoes, Prada bags and Marc Jacob sunnies, 2008 will be the year of the collector’s edition Chari-Tee.

Ten of Australia’s hottest fashion designers have given their talent and time to each design a limited edition tee-shirt for the children’s charity, Variety, with the range to be launched nationally at an event in Brisbane in early February, and available for sale from February 15.

The designer line-up is a Who’s Who of Australian fashion royalty, featuring Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson from Easton Pearson, Wayne Cooper, Peter Morrissey, Harry Watt and George Gross from Harry Who, Trelise Cooper, Jonathan Ward, Charlie Brown and Covers all taking part in the inaugural Collector’s Edition Chari-Tee for Variety.

Each Variety Chari-Tee (retailing for $59.95) features a custom design and the respective designer’s signature.

The brainchild of Danielle Harris, Variety Queensland’s chair of Ladies of Variety Events (LOVE), together with her mother, style doyenne Di Cant, the full range of 10 Chari-Tees will also be showcased at the National Retailer Association’s (NRA’s) Australian Fashion Design Awards on the Gold Coast in March.

“We have had an overwhelming response from Australia’s best designers wanting to be part of this initiative,” said Danielle Harris. “Once they heard it was for Variety and that they could design a tee that reflected their signature style, they were absolutely committed. The fact that the Chari-Tees will be retailed nationally and showcased at the NRA awards was just a bonus for them.”

Harry Watt, of the famous design duo Harry Who, has designed a fantastic 1970s inspired tee complete with the message "Variety…is the Spice of Life" (pictured right), while Lydia Pearson, one half of Australia’s greatest fashion export Easton Pearson, has designed a tee with a quirky, naive edge. Jonathan Ward, a favourite in leading fashion magazines and the design director of R.M. Williams as well as his own haute couture range opted for a 1920s look complete with a glamorous red headpiece, while New Zealand designer Trelise Cooper, who we like to claim as ours, has designed a fantastic multicolored love heart (pictured above), reflecting the Variety connection.”

Variety – a global giving phenomenon

Variety, the worldwide volunteer organisation devoted to helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children, started in Pittsburgh, USA, in 1927 when a group of 11 young men working in a theatre found an abandoned baby girl. It was Christmas Eve and she was found in the stalls of the Sheridan Theatre. Attached to the blanket was a note: “Please take care of my baby. Her name is Catherine. I can no longer take care of her… Signed a heartbroken mother.”

Everyone has a tale to tell- ours began in 1972.

For more than 30 years, our sexy, and easy to wear denim has walked the walk and gone the distance.

In 1972 Australians were cramming into cinemas to see The Godfather, Led Zeppelin played their infamous Australian tour and the Jag brand was born. Jag introduced contemporary sportswear designs and re-invented denim, which became an integral part of the brand.

By the 80’s Jag boasted a star-studded cult following, with celebrities and style icons like Steve McQueen, Jackie Onassis and Bianca Jagger donning JAG jeans at A-list events and dressing them down for weekends out of the spotlight. Wearing Jag became a sign of confidence and individuality and in that respect, not much has changed twenty years on.

Winter 08 launches the next era for Jag with a new logo that reflects both past and propels the brand into the future – its bold color makes the statement - original and authentic. The winter range reflects the future, contemporary and real fashion that just works. Jag is not defined by age but by attitude that provokes certain wear- it- your -way freedom.

Winter 08 at JAG is a celebration of the denim heritage and an injection of fashion to the casual lifestyle the JAG brand emanates. This seasons prints are paired with fabrics that just make you feel good, knits that have a quality soft hand feel and the Jag jean that fits and flatters in sexy classic and new fashion silhouettes.

The Jag outer wear has a story to tell this winter with the key women’s anorak shaped to cinch and complement the waist in a fabric infused with subtle metal flecking. The bomber jacket, a shape central to both men and women this season sits side by side the timeless pea coat for women and denim jacket for men’s.

Jag a story to be worn.
