POSTCARD FROM AUCKLAND

The lamb shanks at Mecca Devonport are amazing. Plus there are great nooks and crannies stores for books and homewares.

Soul at the Viaduct is still amazing – NZ snapper with hazelnut and bread crumbs, with Bluff oysters first and Wither Hill Sauvignon Blanc then Rabbit Pinot. There’s also a great new bar called Cowboys and Indians!

Trelise Cooper was on sale with a new injection of July transeasonal, sensational coats and her mixture of textures and fabrics is always clever.

NZ does fantastic sportswear for guys and girls. Line 7 is a great lifestyle brand.

The rugby is amazing, arriving on a bus of Aussies into a sea of black, and we are always so outnumbered. The kiwis are great winners and leave it at that. Sadly it rained as the Ten Tenors started to sing but it quickly subsided. All very smart in their black suits, the Ten Tenors were recently suited up in lightweight wool from John Harris Menwear in Brisbane. How proud did we feel there at the 2007 Bledisloe Cup listening to that opening number.

Shopping is fabulous at Parnell, also great for everything food and in particular the Big Breaky.

A must-do in Auckland is the ferry ride from Devonport into the city. It really is an equally stunning harbour to that of San Francisco.

POSTCARD from PARIS, July 2007.

Hi Di,

Just a few notes on the fashion in Paris

  • Red is the "It" colour of the new season – it was everywhere (men & women both embracing it). Either as an accessory (bags, belts, shoes and jewellery) or top to toe (including stockings). Red complemented mostly white – which was a strong colour for SS07… very fresh and clean and very European! White shirt dresses everywhere!
  • Apart from Red (and the staples of black and white) – orange stood out as a colour many people where wearing in small amounts.
  • Shift dresses are still firm favourites amongst many designers, many in the same greys we've seen here but with beautiful beading (metallic and blacks). There were also many shift dresses in beautiful retro prints (and short)… very fun and sexy for Spring/Summer.
  • Metallic and detailed beading/jewels where big on shoes, both flat and heels –there was a very retro feel to a lot of the fashion. I loved it!
  • I did keep an eye out, bought many things, and just fell in love with the individual chic style of so many Parisian women.

Kind Regards,
