Red Carpet report from the NRA Australian Fashion Design Awards on Channel 9
Each year, the National Retailers Association (NRA) Australian Fashion Design Awards highlight some of our country’s best fashion names. This year, the 27th, was no exception. Di Cant was at the Gold Coast event and on the red carpet to give us the goss of who wore what.
The red carpet report from the 27th NRA Australian Fashion Design Awards began at the McKinney’s diamond bar where the celebs were decked out in amazing diamonds and precious stones for their night of fashion. The champagne flowed and the excitement built as the VIP guests arrived.
Jonathan Ward (executive designer to R.M. Williams, pictured centre) looked divine in tight fitting R.M. Williams jeans with the most sensational sparkly bling buckle and belt under a superb tux jacket.
Sophie Faulkiner changed three times during the evening but arrived on the red carpet wearing a Collette Dinnigan design and amazing jewels. Later Sophie changed into a beautiful blue Grecian-style Wayne Cooper gown and then for the last part of the show she wore an elegant black George Gross column with the most sensational diamond earrings from McKinney’s.
Trelise Cooper, international fashion designer and judge at this years NRA AFDA wore her own design - a Schiaparelli (hot pink) gown. Shelly Craft presenter of Australia’s Funniest Home Videos was dressed by Trelise Cooper. Miranda Deakin was pretty in a blue Charlie Brown dress. Melissa Hoyer, fashion journalist and style commentator looked so chic wearing black. Shaun Swanger, Chief Operating Officer of AMP Capital Shopping Centres was the best dressed man in the room in a new Armani dinner suit and sheer dinner shirt and cravat. Brisbane's fashion darlings Matt and Amber Long both wore vintage - except Amber's amazing shoes were new season Giuseppe Zanotti from Jean Brown. Cameron Williams,co-host for the evening and channel 9 presenter made a classic dark pin stripe suit look perfect on the night.
Brad Webb, previous supreme award winner looked very elegant in a chalk striped Ralph Lauren suit. Danielle Haris looked very fashionable in a long LBD (little black dress) by Wayne Cooper. Donna Caley, Director of NRA Events, wore a Wendy Makin musk silk and lace gown. Both Jillian Whiting and Heather Foord looked gorgeous in Gina Kim gowns. Lisa Brown, announced winner of the Supreme Award for 2008, made her own icy pink silk gown the night before.
My white formal trench coat with lace skirt was from the Ermanno Scervino collection (Di Cant, pictured right). There were some fabulous outfits in the room in a mix of colours and black and a similar mix this year of short and long. The room looked fabulous with the stunning new Channel 9 set and a well dressed crowd supported by the Australian fashion industry's heavyweights all enjoying this prestigious event.
